The side brush gearbox (right) is a replacement part made by Polaris. The same high-quality materials used to manufacture the original factory part. Making this a genuine OEM product.

The side brush gearbox is the powering mechanism that operates the side brush on the front end of the cleaner and its purpose is to help on the cleaning process as the cleaner gets in ant tight spots like corners or up along the waters surface near the tiles sucking and pulling dirt and debris while the brushes agitate any algae as well.

The gearbox is meant for the right side of the cleaner and houses the side brush, however it also aids in the rotation of the main roller brush which performs the same tasks yet is larger and helps pick up larger items like acorns, sticks, and even golf ball sized objects and shoots them up through the large mouth opening into the canisters where they can then be disposed of at a later time.
